Logo - Vista 2K7

Rediscover : Businesses today have to Rediscover their markets. The whole world is growing at a very rapid pace. Things are changing while this article is being written, and it is simply not done, if a company says "I am going to do business the good old way". It may not be long before that business gets eaten up. Learn to ReDiscover.

Redefine : This would mean that companies have to sit up and think if the targets they have set for themselves are in fact achievable or on the other hand, very modest. Given the completely changing business scene, it is now just not enough if a company has a "10% increase in profits every year" as its motto.

Refocus : A question that every manager has to ask is, "Am I focusing my energies in the right direction?". While Focus helps channelize efforts, Refocusing would help find where to Focus. The whole world is thrown wide open and businesses today have options of manufacturing in one country, selling in another, financing in another and maintaining their information in another. Is it time then to Refocus?

To cut the story short, the logo represents the need for companies to ReBusiness

Vista 2K7

Every Vista carries a THEME with it.

Last year’s theme was Business Beyond Boundaries. It was a fest that brought out the need to push the boundaries in business. To create opportunities in this world of change is not a mean task. One has to think out of the box and innovate. In a sense, the business of the future would not be bound by boundaries.

This year’s theme is

ReDefine
ReDiscover
ReFocus
ReBusiness

It is all about exploring the different aspects of a business.

For example,

If you are a manager, you may ask, “How do I redefine my targets so as to maximize my profits?”

You may also think about “How do I rediscover new markets?

Well, the answer is through Re-Business - Do Business Differently

How We Do It

VISTA as we already mentioned is organized by the Forum for Industrial Interaction team at IIM Bangalore. We are divided into four verticals (Sponz, Events, Publicity and Logistics). VISTA is our challenge and it is how we push ourselves.

Sponz: Short, for Sponsorships. As the name goes, they provide the fuel for the event, namely, Sponsorships and Corporate Presence. The job of the Sponz team is to get in touch with Companies and try to pitch for the events that take place at VISTA. We believe that Companies benefit from the association with an event such as VISTA. Some big names that Partnered with us last year (the list is not complete) were, Reliance ® , Microsoft ®, Tata ®, FXCM ® , Inductis ®, Ogilvy ® , CNBC ®, BusinessLine ® , BusinessWorld ® and so on. It is in short the Heart of the team from where the other organs derive the energy.

Events: What’s a festival without an Event? Well, as the name says, everything right from deciding the events that have to be there in VISTA, to actually executing them is taken care of by the Events team. The list of events is almost exhaustive in terms of content. The NUMERO UNO decides the next biggest CEO is, while BZZWINGS is where you put forth your business plans and tell us why it is a success formula. Any fest cannot be complete without a quiz, and we have the BIZARRE to satisfy your brain cells. The list just starts here, and there are so many more events which we would soon be discussing on the course of this blog. It is in short the Brain of the team which decides the course of the all the actions.

Logistics: Imagine Dr. P. Chidambaram or Douglas Baillie (CEO, HLL) about to speak and the mike goes kaput. Logistics team makes sure such a thing does not happen. With so many footfalls in the campus, the Logistics team takes care of arranging for everything from their registration to the accommodation and of course the final send-offJ. Purchasing, Lighting, Sounds, Accommodation etc, all come under the Logistics purview. It is in short the Backbone of the team which bears the weight of the infrastructure.

Publicity: This blog is an example of something this team does. As the name goes, everything from Websites, to brochures, to posters is taken care of by the Publicity team. In short it is the most creative arm of all the four verticals. The Publicity team is the media interface for the event. It is in short the Face of the team which is what paves way for the rest of the world to appreciate the entire effort.

Ok so what exactly is VISTA all about?

If we say

“It is a culmination of the Strategize-Execute-Innovate anthology and looks at the business impact of restructuring in the world economy with the rising strength of the emerging markets.”

There is a good chance your reaction would be “Huh?”

So let us put it simply. VISTA is a management fest that is conducted almost entirely by the efforts of the Student body at IIM B. This event is conducted by the Forum for Industrial Interaction (FII in short) which is one of the many wonderful student committees at IIM B. The budget for this event is as high as the numbers you would want to imagine on your ten yearly pay check.

Some Vitalstatistix about last years VISTA

Overall footfalls 10,000
Over 150 colleges attending
Corporate Presence – over 60 companies
Online events – 1.2 million hits in 2005 and 5.4 million hits in 2006
Tremendous media coverage
Generates strong interest among alumni
Over 10,000 posters banners and standees

We don’t think we need to say anymore. The numbers speak for themselves…

All of you, who think you have a “manager” in you, will be at home at VISTA. We at IIM B welcome you all to be a part of one of our biggest events, i.e VISTA.

More on this years VISTA soon…
